Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – The Australasian Soccer Academy (ASA) faced a tough challenge last night, succumbing to a narrow 2-1 defeat against the formidable Persatuan Bolasepak Selangor, one of the strongest teams in the country.
The match kicked off with ASA displaying dominant form, controlling possession and pressing the opposition effectively. Their efforts paid off in the 48th minute when Robertson Ahamuda netted a stunning volley from outside the box, giving ASA a 1-0 lead. The first half showcased ASA’s attacking prowess, with multiple opportunities falling to Tishan Deo, who unfortunately failed to convert.
As the match progressed, Selangor began to find their rhythm, launching several attacks that tested ASA’s defenses. Goalkeeper Lawrence Zi Hang made a remarkable double save, keeping ASA in front and demonstrating the team’s resilience. However, the tide turned in the second quarter when Selangor leveled the score with a well-executed sweeping move down the right flank.
Despite having a chance to regain the lead through Ren Cooper, who shot over the bar, ASA’s hopes were dashed when a defensive error gifted Selangor the opportunity to score. A close-range finish from the home team striker put Selangor ahead 2-1.
Fatigue set in for ASA as they struggled to maintain their earlier intensity after playing two consecutive matches. Tishan managed to weave past a defender but shot wide, while Charlie Morley missed a crucial one-on-one opportunity late in the game, scuffing his shot off target.
Head coach Tony Basha expressed his disappointment, highlighting the lack of intent in front of goal and the team’s struggles in midfield. “We gifted them two goals and missed five. I’m happy we created chances, but we are struggling to execute. We didn’t play our best game and still should have gotten the win. This tour is about learning, and we’re doing that against some good players under tough conditions.”
Looking ahead, Basha acknowledged the need for improvement before heading to Thailand, where competition is expected to be even fiercer. The team will take a well-deserved break today at Sunway Lagoon to recuperate and regroup.
As ASA continues their tour, the focus remains on improving performance in the matches to come.
